Introduction

This textbook is intended to be used as a supplemental resource for college-level introductory anatomy and physiology courses.  The text uses visual tutorials of microscope images to help students learn the structure and function of normal mammalian tissues.  This is an eBook and the interactive tutorials and review activities require a Wi-Fi connection to function.

Each tutorial chapter in this text contains a brief introduction to the tissue followed by numerous interactive activities designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of the structure and function of the tissue.  Tutorial image sliders focus on the structure and functional characteristics of each tissue using text and annotated microscope images.  Microscopy image sliders give students additional insight on how to use a microscope to study the tissue highlighted in the chapter.  Hotspot images allow students to quickly review the most important structural and functional characteristics of a tissue on a single image.  At the end of each tutorial chapter is an unlabeled image slider containing unlabeled images of the tissue under different powers of microscope magnification.  All images presented in tutorials can be downloaded and saved on personal devices.

Each unit in this text contains a review chapter containing a variety of interactive activities designed to help students review unit topics and reinforce their understanding of the structural and functional characteristics of all tissues covered in the unit.  These interactive review activities include a variety of practice quizzes, hotspot images, flash cards, and drag and drop matching activities.
