Chapter 3C. Energy Resources and Climate
Learning Objectives
By carefully reading this chapter and completing the learning activities within it, you should be able to do the following:
- Describe the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy and the general makeup of U.S. and world electricity sources
- Explain the formation of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) as well as the pros and cons of using these resources for energy
- Explain how nuclear energy is generated and the pros and cons associated with it
- Explain how energy is generated from renewable resources (biomass, geothermal, solar, wind, hydroelectric, wave, and tidal) and the pros and cons of these resources
- Compare and contrast the pros and cons associated with different energy resources
- Create and justify an electricity generation plan for a given location by evaluating energy availability data.
