Communication in the Real World: An Introduction to Communication Studies is an adapted work originating from Tacoma Community College (oer@tacomacc.edu), itself based on a resource first created and distributed in 2013 under a Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC-SA) by a publisher and author who have requested not to be attributed. The original adaptation was produced by the University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing through the eLearning Support Initiative.

The Tacoma Community College edition was supported by the institution and involved reformatting the initial text and updating certain images and figures to enhance shareability. However, the adaptation did not significantly alter or update the core content from 2013. The resulting work remains under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.

This particular edition, produced for use at Moorhead State University, closely follows the Tacoma Community College adaptation, but with the removal of several chapters to better suit the needs of its intended audience.
