Instructor Guide: Ways to Use This Course

Options for Use

There are several ways to use this course in your own classes. Click on the options below to jump to instructions for each use option.

  1. Using Pressbooks
  2. Using Pressbooks and your Learning Management System (LMS)
  3. Using your LMS
  4. Using other platforms

We’ve designed this OER to provide two things, intended to be used with students in two different ways:

  1. A textbook that you will import into your own Pressbook, for direct use by students
  2. A set of “ancillary materials” that include activities, additional (non-OER) readings and resources, formative assessments, and summative assessments, which you will use to build the remainder of the course in your own LMS or wherever you deem appropriate.

How to choose your materials:

  1. Identify the InTASC standards that align to your state standards you’re covering in your course.
  2. Pull up the Excel spreadsheet and filter for the applicable standards.
  3. Identify which textbook readings, supplemental readings, activities, and assessments you want to use in your course.
  4. Identify where you want to place each of the items in #3.

How to use textbook materials with students

  1. [explicit instructions on creating a new PB, importing materials, etc. Pull from existing resource.]
  2. Place link to book, along with detailed instructions, into the LMS or most familiar location for students. [Find existing instructions.]
  3. Be sure you provide instructions to students for how to print/create hard-copy textbook if that is their preference. [Find existing instructions.]
