Module 1: Equity Disparities in Higher Education

For our first session, we are establishing the equity challenges that currently exist in higher education and their context in our broader society. By the end of this module, you should be able to

  • Explain how structural racism and white supremacy culture in higher education policies and practices cause inequitable outcomes.
  • Define key terms, concepts, and mindsets related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, especially as it applies to higher education.
  • Analyze how current equity initiatives are drawing on lived experiences, research, and public discourse about equity to inform their priorities.
